Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Programme

SAFE & EMPOWERED

Preventing Violence. Supporting Survivors. Building Safer Communities.

At Lindagrace Care, we believe every woman and girl deserves to live in safety, dignity, and freedom from violence.

Through SAFE & EMPOWERED, our Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response Programme, we work to promote safer communities, strengthen access to support for survivors, and advance women’s economic empowerment.

We recognise that gender-based violence is not only a violation of human rights but also a barrier to women’s health, education, economic participation and overall well-being. Addressing it requires community education, survivor-centred support, collaboration and opportunities for women to exercise greater control over their lives.

Our approach combines prevention, appropriate referrals, and economic empowerment to build communities where women and girls are respected, protected, and supported.

Our commitment: Every person deserves safety, dignity, respect and access to appropriate support.

Our Mission

To contribute to the prevention of gender-based violence, improve access to appropriate support services for survivors, and promote the social and economic empowerment of women and girls in Ghana.

Our Three Thematic Areas

1. Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Community Awareness

Build a Safe Haven For Abused Victims in Ghana - GlobalGiving

Building knowledge. Challenging harmful norms. Promoting safer communities.

Preventing gender-based violence begins with awareness, education and collective responsibility.

Lindagrace Care works to strengthen community understanding of GBV and encourage positive attitudes and behaviours that promote safety, equality and respect.

Our activities include:

  • Community education on the forms, causes and consequences of gender-based violence.
  • Awareness of intimate partner violence, emotional abuse, sexual violence and economic abuse.
  • Education on consent, personal boundaries and healthy relationships.
  • Engagement with men, boys, families and community leaders to challenge harmful gender norms.
  • Information on women’s rights and available support services.
  • Age-appropriate safety education for adolescent girls, delivered with appropriate child safeguarding measures.

We believe that preventing violence is a shared responsibility and that communities have an important role in promoting dignity, equality and accountability.

2. Survivor Support and Referral Services

Listening with respect. Protecting dignity. Connecting survivors to support.

Survivors of gender-based violence may face stigma, fear, financial barriers and uncertainty about where to seek help. Finding appropriate support should not be another obstacle.

Lindagrace Care seeks to improve access to reliable information and appropriate services for women and girls affected by violence.

Our approach includes:

  • Providing information about available support services and options.
  • Connecting survivors, with their informed consent, to appropriate health, psychosocial, legal and protection services.
  • Developing referral relationships with relevant professionals and institutions.
  • Promoting awareness of survivors’ rights, safety and available avenues for assistance.
  • Working with qualified service providers to strengthen access to appropriate support.
  • Promoting respectful, confidential and non-judgmental responses to disclosures of abuse.

We recognise that every survivor’s circumstances are different. We respect individual choices and do not blame survivors for the violence they experience.

Lindagrace Care’s role is to help people access appropriate support through responsible, survivor-centred practices. Specialist clinical, legal and emergency services are provided through qualified professionals and relevant service partners, where available.

3. Women’s Economic Empowerment and Financial Independence

Expanding opportunities. Strengthening choices. Supporting independence.

Economic dependence can make it more difficult for some women to access support or make decisions about their safety. Although financial independence alone cannot prevent or end violence, access to economic opportunities can help women broaden their options.

Building on our commitment to financial and digital inclusion, Lindagrace Care works to strengthen women’s skills, knowledge and opportunities for economic participation.

Our activities include:

  • Financial literacy and personal money management education.
  • Digital literacy and responsible use of digital financial services.
  • Vocational skills development and livelihood training.
  • Entrepreneurship and small-business development education.
  • Awareness of economic abuse, financial control and women’s economic rights.
  • Connections to relevant livelihood opportunities and business support programmes.
  • Exploration of partnerships that can expand access to training, equipment and other economic opportunities.

We aim to help women develop practical skills, strengthen their financial knowledge and pursue opportunities that support their well-being and independence.

Economic empowerment activities are not conditional on a survivor reporting abuse, leaving a relationship or sharing personal experiences.
